New Horizons Fund Established Targeting Underserved Areas |
February 10, 2010 |
During the summer and early fall, the New Horizons Lacrosse fund (http://www.newhorizonslacrosse.org/nhl/) was established in order to provide personal growth, positive life experiences, and enrichment through the participation in team sports by supporting the development of lacrosse programs in underserved and disadvantaged communities. It is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization under the direction of David Hamill and Al Picazo and is administered by the Austin Community Foundation. In August, New Horizons received a US Lacrosse Chapter Grant to support the establishment of a program at Eastside Memorial High School in East Austin. See press release for more information. In October, proceeds from the Mangia Pizza Lacrosse Clinic, held at Eastside Memorial (EMHS) campus were donated to the continuing effort there. See press release for more information. In November, US Lacrosse announced that New Horizons Lacrosse Fund (NHLF) has been accepted into the USL Emerging Groups Program. This will allow both continued effort at EMHS and allow NHLF to expand targets for support. The mission of New Horizons Lacrosse is to work in partnership with programs of demonstrated need to identify, gather, and provide resources and expertise in order to create successful and sustainable lacrosse programs.

St.Andrews is happy to announce the hiring of Jamie DeBole as the new boys lacrosse head coach. Jamie was born in Severna Park , MD, known as lacrosse country, where he began playing lacrosse at the age of five.Later, in high school, with the help of parents, enthusiasts, and players, he helped found the Mt. Jamie then went on to play Division I college lacrosse at the University of North Carolina after turning down Dartmouth, Notre Dame, Duke, Army, Navy and others.
Following college graduation,he moved to Shanghai,China where he pursued entrepreneurial interests and became fluent in Mandarin Chinese. While in China , he realized his true passion was coaching and he moved back to the US, more recently to Austin . Since his move, he has started LacrosseTURF.com, an educational lacrosse site for youth and high school lacrosse players, and held educational summer lacrosse camps in cities across North Carolina and Texas . He has directed over 30 camps in the past eight years, including the 2009 UNC Lacrosse Day Camp.
